Video: Helado Negro - "Octubre 22"

The results of Roberto C. Lange’s experiments with an Atari Video Music, a Teenage Engineering OP-1, and a Scully 280 tape machine enable you to see what you hear. “Octubre 22” renders this eccentric and prolific Brooklyn-based artist’s own version of graphical sounds, breathing new life into techniques developed by Soviet artist Nikolai Voinov, German engineer Rudolf Pfenninger, and Canadian animator Norman McLaren, among others. Lange as Helado Negro synchronizes a synth soundscape with a hypnotizing visual halfway between geometrical shapes and electrical waveforms. “22 Octubre,” the last track off Island Universe StoryOne (first chapter of a series of musical inquests), is one of Helado Negro’s most daring and curious artistic interventions so far.
